SUMMER SLIDING

Have you heard about the dreaded “summer slide?” I know…it sounds like a really fun water park ride or a line dance sung by Billy Ray Cyrus.

Actually, it’s a sneaky gremlin that loves to steal kids' hard-earned academic skills while they're busy splashing in pools and staring at screens.

Funny story…I asked Chatgpt for a short list of fun activities kids can do to battle the summer slide and all of the activities are things we include in Page Turner’s Adventure Library!

Check out the list below for some fun ways to keep brain cells buzzing and imaginations sparking over the summer.

  1. E-books: Diving into digital adventures is a great way to encourage daily reading.

  2. Crafts: Get creative with projects that teach fine motor skills and creativity.

  3. Recipes: Measuring and following recipes are great STEAM activities.

  4. Virtual Field Trips: A fun way to see the world without leaving the house.

  5. Storytelling: This one is my favorite! Creating and performing puppet shows, performing reader’s theater,  or simply listening to an audiobook story are fantastic ways to boost creativity, imagination, and reading comprehension.

Incorporating these fun activities into your summer routine can help prevent the summer slide and ensure kids are ready for the school year and beyond!

AND...if you’re looking for fun ways to battle the Summer Slide, check out Page Turner’s Adventure Library. For just $7 a month, you get access to more than 100 activities like the ones mentioned above.
