Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Conference

Whew! It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged. My excuse? I’m working hard on a new middle grade novel. I tend to let everything else slide when I’m deep in revision mode. But I did have to take just a moment to gush about the amazing SCBWI conference in Miami this weekend. It was chock full of inspiration, motivation, and fun! Plus it was a steampunk theme, which I of course LOVE!

I also had a chance to meet some of the greats of children’s literature including Chris Crutcher, Sarah Pennypacker, Peter Brown, and the incredible Lois Duncan. It was also a great opportunity to connect with authors, agents, editors and other folks who are passionate about KidLit! Special thanks to Linda Bernfeld, Gaby Triana, Curtis Sponsler (and the rest of the Florida team) for putting together such a great event.

I was also thrilled to win third place for novels in the writing competition (which means I REALLY have to finish this revision).

Conferences are wonderful. But of course, it’s also nice to come home, especially to a husband ready to celebrate with flowers and cupcakes!
