Come in…Shel Silverstein

I love all of Shel Silverstein’s poems. But this is my absolute favorite!

INVITATION

If you are a dreamer, come in.
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer . . .
If you’re a pretender, come sit by my fire,
For we have some flax golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!

  1. Shel Silverstein is the best! I think if my son came across this invitation, he might never come out again:-)

  2. I know. I love all of Shel Silverstein’s work, but there’s just something magical about this poem!

  3. Oops, don’t know Shel, but I can tell you right now that he will be a part of the poetry section of Language Arts this year with baby girl. I love what I see when I did a quick search for him! Thanks Riley for helping me out with home school, once again!

  4. Thanks, Biz. I think you’ll both really enjoy his work. It’s funny and silly while touching on universal truths. Although some of it is just silly and fun to read out loud. One of my favorites is Sarah Sylvia Cynthia Stout who WOULD NOT TAKE THE GARBAGE OUT!!
