Fairytale Frenzy!

My grandmother and I have a routine. Every Sunday we grab some Chinese food,  get big, goopy ice cream Sundays from Carvel, then go back to her house to watch the TV show Once Upon a Time. It’s our thing.
If you haven’t seen the show, here’s a quick run down…The evil queen has put a spell on all the fairytale characters forcing them to live in modern day Maine. None of the people remember that they’re from a storybook, but throughout the show we see glimpses of who they used to be.Dragon

I’ve always been a fan of fairytale adaptations and I think they do a good job with this one. My grandmother and I are both big fairytale fans and it seems the rest of the world has caught up with us. Besides Once Upon A Time, there’s the TV show Grimm, the movies,

Red Riding Hood,  Mirror Mirror, Beastly, Snow White and the Huntsman, and the list goes on.

Why this sudden infatuation with magic mirrors, wishes and wolves? Perhaps it’s because our own world is feeling a little fantastical and slightly scary (darn that Mayan calendar).

There’s a great quote by the author G.K. Chesterton…

“Fairytales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”

Maybe these days, we’re all looking for a little magic, some happily ever after, and the knowledge that we can beat our dragons. Then again, maybe the world just needs a good story.
